@TerryP4, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Missing Internal Microphone on HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your internal microphone has disappeared, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Check Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager from the list.
  • Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
  • Look for your microphone. If it's not visible, try selecting Show hidden devices under the View menu.

Re-enable Disabled Devices:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon located in the system tray and select Sounds.
  • Go to the Recording tab.
  • Right-click in the window and select Show Disabled Devices.
  • If your microphone appears, right-click on it and choose Enable.

Update or Roll Back the Audio Driver:

  • In Device Manager, locate your audio device under Sound, video, and game controllers.
  • Right-click on the device and select Update driver.
  • If updating doesn't help, select Properties, then the Driver tab and click on Roll back driver if that option is available.

Check Windows Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
  • Ensure that Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on.

BIOS Update:

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
