Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The laptop has an internal smart card reader. It isn't working fully. I have updated and tried downgrading  drivers with no change in behavior. I've also checked for windows updates (windows 10), and everything is up to date.

The problem is the device manager shows that the ID crd is inserted, but web pages are not detecting the card reader. There is usually a tone when the ID card is inserted or removed, but it isn't playing the tone.

I have found that if I uninstall the smart card reader from Device Manager, and detect hardware changes, it will re-install the card reader. If the ID card is in the reader, everythign works as normal until I remove the card. When I remove the card, I hear the tone I should hear, but then it goes back to not working.

Anyone else have this problem?

Do you have Smart card application on your computer ?  I use a smart card to logon to my work networks from any where out side my work buildings. For the last 15 years or so, from at least 5 different laptops, I could not hear any sound.

All I do: start the application and application will check the card and asking for a PIN to logon to my work networks from home or any ehere as mentioned above, inlcuding from overseas.

Regards.
