Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
It is normal for the battery to degrade over time and after many cycles of charge - use - charge - use.
Batteries are meant to be replaced when they can no longer maintain a charge.
Consumer grade computers typically come with batteries that last as long as a standard warranty (one year) or a bit longer.

Information / Tests
This section does not apply to a bloated, inflated, swollen battery.
If you know the battery is failing / has failed - skip this section.
Consider checking whether the BIOS can be updated on your computer.
Out-dated BIOS might result in odd issues, including the battery not charging during Hibernation.
