Symbols and some uppercase letters not working. They worked one day and not the next day. The only symbols that work are: % and ^. None of the others work with either "SHIFT" key. With the left SHIFT key only the letters that work are: B and N. With the right SHIFT key all of the letters and punctuation work. Is there a fix to correct this problem?

Hi @DHop63,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If certain keys on your HP laptop keyboard are not working as expected, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to address the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve keyboard issues. Make sure to save your work before restarting.
Check for physical damage: Inspect the keyboard for any physical damage, such as loose or stuck keys. Ensure there is no debris or foreign objects stuck between the keys.
Update keyboard drivers: Outdated or corrupt keyboard drivers can cause issues. To update the drivers:
- Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
- Locate and expand the "Keyboards" section.
- Right-click on your keyboard device and choose "Update driver."
Uninstall and reinstall keyboard drivers:
- In the Device Manager, right-click on your keyboard device and select "Uninstall device."
- Restart your laptop, and the drivers will be automatically reinstalled.
Check keyboard settings:
- Go to "Settings" > "Ease of Access" > "Keyboard."
- Ensure that the "Filter Keys" and "Sticky Keys" options are turned off.
Run the built-in Windows troubleshooter:
- Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
- Run the troubleshooter for keyboards.
System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a previous state where the keyboard was working correctly.
External Keyboard: Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop and check if the issue persists. If the external keyboard works fine, it may indicate a hardware problem with the laptop's built-in keyboard.
Check for malware: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to rule out malware or other security-related issues.
Check for Windows updates: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date. Install any pending updates, as they may include fixes for keyboard-related issues.
System File Checker (SFC) and DISM: Run the System File Checker and Deployment Image Service and Management Tool to scan and repair corrupted system files.
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Once it's done, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
