hp envy m7-n109dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Greetings,

I am looking for help replacing the keyboard on my hp envy m7-n109dx.

Note this particular model is different than others. I have attempted to follow the directions for other models of 17" hp envy note books but those models have these key differences:

The battery is completely internal on my model.

The optical drive cannot be removed without removing the bottom of the case (I can get that far).

There are key differences with the case build/ appearance from other models that there are tutorials/ instructions for.

I bought my laptop at Best Buy. I suspect the differences were cost cutting measures and this model is Best Buy only.

There is a tutorial for removing the case to replace the hard drive here :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgeHzELkp0w
This works for my model but the tutorial does not tell me how to get the top portion of the case off. The keyboard is still inaccessible and it seems the keyboard is buried between the MoBo / components and the top portion of the case and from what I can tell they seem to be glued together somehow.

Has anyone performed this repair on this model? It would seem ridiculous to make the keyboard this inaccessible on a laptop, it has to be the most common hardware repair.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

You've to take out topcover with keyboard assembly from the notebook.

They're not spared separately, glued together.

It is a major disassembly.

Visruth,

Thanks for the speedy reply and the specific manual link. The second link either did not point to specific content or something escaped me but if I interpret the manual correctly (and your post) the top cover and keyboard are the solid state and not separable - that is my avenue for repair is to strip all other components from the top cover / keyboard assembly and reinstall them on a new one.

Does that sound accurate?

Thanks for the clarification. I had looked at the menu to the lef but the title "Display Panel Assembly/ Top cover" lead me away from that as a place to find info on the keyboard.

Terrible design decision on HP's part. Seems having a wiping cloth just a bit too moist with cleaner to wipe my keys is going to cost me 200$ and hours of disassembly/ reassembly.

Terrific, well informed , and helpful answer on your part.

Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

Sorry for the bearer of bad news though.

I'm not sure why HP is making it difficult this for consumer class notebooks. I had also went through, what you're going through now.
