Hi @magnum31,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Notebook keyboard is experiencing some issues. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly fix the problem.

Clean the Keyboard:

  • Dust, dirt, or debris under the keys can cause malfunction. Turn off your laptop and gently shake it to dislodge any particles. You can also use compressed air to blow out any debris.

Check Keyboard Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language and make sure your keyboard layout matches your physical keyboard (e.g., US, UK).

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Right-click on the Start menu, select Device Manager, and expand the Keyboards section. Right-click your keyboard and choose Update driver.

Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Keyboard and run the troubleshooter.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect your keyboard for any visible signs of damage or wear, particularly around the affected keys.

External Keyboard Test:

  • If possible, connect an external USB keyboard to see if the issue persists. If it works fine, the problem may be with the built-in keyboard.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Power off the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if removable). Hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect everything and power it back on.

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your keyboard, select Uninstall device, and then restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
