HP 820G3 and more models have the same issue
Microsoft Windows 11

In Bios keyboard is working so technical keyboard is working ok. But after login not any key is working only touchpad is working.

I have read suggestion about registry key of i8042prt start set to 1 instead of 3, but still trouble is there.

I have done alle the updates include bios update but trouble is still there.

Finally I change 2 bios settings:

1) Startup menu delay (sec) from 0 to 5

2) NumLock on at boot from off to on

Problem is gone.

But the real problem is in the driver itself I would see. So hopefully there will become an update which can fix this issue.

I have seen this trouble at more than 1 hp models

Hello @ErikvdW ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

You’re absolutely right — what you described is a real, reproducible driver/firmware interaction bug, not a hardware failure, and your findings are technically sound. 👍

Thank you for documenting the workaround so clearly.

  • This requires HP driver + firmware coordination

  • Older models like 820 G3 are not guaranteed a fix

  • HP often treats this as “working as designed” if a BIOS workaround exists

Your workaround is effectively what HP support would suggest internally.

Have an amazing day ahead!
