Hi @victusfixus,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your Victus 16-s1023dx laptop only charges when powered off and stops charging when turned on, it’s likely a power delivery or battery management issue. Let’s go through the steps to troubleshoot this:
1. Check the Charger and Port
- Use the original HP charger that came with the laptop.
- Plug directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector.
- Inspect the USB-C or barrel connector for damage or looseness.
2. Battery and Adapter Test via HP Diagnostics
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly → then F2 to enter HP UEFI Diagnostics.
- Run:
- Battery Test
- AC Adapter Test
This will confirm if the battery or adapter is failing.
3. Update BIOS and Drivers
Charging issues can be caused by outdated firmware.
- Go to Victus Gaming Laptop 16-s1023dx (A1SV3UA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download and install:
- BIOS Update
- Chipset Driver
- Battery Management Driver
4. Reset Embedded Controller (EC)
This resets the battery and power management.
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the charger.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the charger and power on.
5. Check Battery Status in Windows
- Go to Device Manager → Batteries
- Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery → Uninstall
- Restart your laptop to reinstall it automatically
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
