Hello,

Simply try to look for any detailed specs information for my HP laptop's motherboard  HP 883C in order to find out 2021 whether my laptop only supports the order PCIe interface v. 3.0 or the new version 4.0.

Laptop model:  HP 17  with Intel 11th Gen core processor   purchased in 2021

baseboard number found:  HP 883C

Thanks!

Hi:

Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up your notebook's processor's specifications on the Intel website and under the Expansion Options section it will list the PCIe generation.

In some Intel 11th gen core processors, the Processor itself has a PCIe connectivity of 4.0, but the rest of the motherboard is PCIe 3.0, which would be what the M.2 NVMe slot would be.

HP only has the service manual for the 17-cn1xxx model series on your notebook's support page but using the info on the only processor supported in that model series, you can see the PCIe specs on it at the second link I posted.

According to the specs, the M.2 slot is Gen 3.
