I use my computer for school almost everyday and I power it down every once and a while. But recently it just started shutting down in the sleep mode after 2-3 minutes of inactivity. It has a full battery and everything so i'm a little concerned as this has my entire college career on it. Its only happened twice now so is it a virus or is my laptop dying?

Hi @ChelsiPeach

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

As I understand from your post, there's an issue with the sleep mode. Don't worry, I'd be happy to help.

Let's try restoring the power settings to defaults -

1.) Open the Start Menu.

2.) Click on Settings.

3.) Click on System.

4.) Navigate to Power & sleep in the left pane.

5.) In the right pane, click on Additional power settings.

6.) Select Choose when to turn off the display.

7.) Click on Change advanced power settings.

8.) Click on Restore plan defaults.

Re-configure your power settings again.

I'd also suggest, try updating your computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run Windows Updates troubleshooter.

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
