Hello there!

I recently purchased a Intel Wireless-N 7260 Plus Bluetooth Internal WLAN/Bluetooth 300Mbit/s - networking cards (Wireless,...

to fix problems i was having with the wireless wifi at my university (it would turn off and require up to 30mins to reconnect for some reason). This was recommended to me from a friend who installed it on his tablet and was getting over 400mbits at uni.

however, to my dismay i keep getting an error saying that my wifi card is not suported (702) and from extensive research the only way to go around this is to get a modded bios (which i have neither the time or cahoonas to pull off) orrrrr - buy a different wifi card.

so my question is what is the recommended card that will get 300mbit/s and preferrably around £20 (and from amazon if possible =D)

also my bios is f.66 which is the latest one and there isn't an update for windows 10 (unfortunately)

please and thank you's.

Hey there! @Eldunario, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I understand you upgraded the wireless card on your laptop you are getting error wifi card is not supported (702).

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any hardware or software changes on your PC?

Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned you upgraded the wireless card on your laptop you are getting error wifi card is not supported (702).

To connect an AC router you would need a dual band N wireless card on your PC.

Since the serial number you shared is incorrect, I'm unable to bring up any details. Please share the product number of your PC to get you the compatible wireless card.

I would suggest you using a Wireless Dual-Band Mini USB Adapter. Instead of upgrading the wireless adapter.

This would be cheaper than upgrading the wireless card.

You can try buying Edimax EW-7811UTC which delivers speeds of up to 433Mbps at 5GHz.

hp pavilion g6 notebook pc

hardware changes - put in more ram think the laptop came with either 2 or 4gb, i have a 4gb and 8gb = 12gb total ram

software - took the opportunity to upgrade to windows 10

sorry i think serial number is caps sensitive so here's the right one - 5CD143729Q

product number - A5H09EA#ABU

I checked out the edimax and it doesn't have the greatest reviews, i mostly wanted a pcie card because it's out of the way and i don't have to worry about remembering to bring it with me everywhere (have had usb sticks snap in old laptops on me)

thanks

Yes you have a wireless whitelist and yes the only cards you can use are the ones listed in the Service manual and they have to be HP part number versions of the card.

The whole thing about the dual band router was a red herring.

This is the best wireless card you can use:

Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 + Bluetooth (802.11b/g/n) 631956-001

Here it is from UK:
