17-n100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The OEM hard drive failed on my HP Envy 17-n100 CTO laptop.  I purchased this with 2 built in 2 TB regular old hard drives, although there exists an m.2 slot on the motherboard right next to the primary drive.  My primary drive failed, requiring a replacement.  I order a Samsung EVO Plus 2 TB m.2 NVMe drive to replace the defective primary drive.  I can't get the laptop to recognize it.  I've removed the defective drive and installed the m.2 drive and when I go to turn the computer on, absolutely nothing happens.  The power light next to the plug comes on as usual, but when I press the power button, nothing.  There's no sounds, no other lights, no fan runs, etc.  The manual says I should be able to add an m.2 SSD, but I'm likely missing something or the new drive is defective.  Would any of the community experts here have any thoughts as to why I am having this difficulty?  Could the size of the SSD be the issue?  Thanks!

I'm adding the following information that I found in the technical manual.  Am I reading correctly that only a 256GB m.2 SSD would work?

Hard drive Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses
Accelerometer / HDD protection support
Support for 2nd HDD
Support for SATA HDD (Port1)
Support for m.2 SSD (support storage function, assuming SSD >= 128 G, Port0)
Single HDD configurations:
Support for the following single hard drive configurations: ● 2-TB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm ● 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm ● 750-GB, 5400-rpm, 9.5-mm
SSHD configurations ● 1-TB 5400-rpm 9.5–mm SSHD w/8 GB NAND
Dual storage configurations: ● 1-TB + 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC) ● 4-TB: 2-TB (5400-rpm) x 2
SSD configurations:
, (available for i7 + GTX PCA) ● 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD (TLC) ● 128 GB M2 SATA-3 (TLC) ● 128 GB M2 SATA-3 (TLC) value

EDIT:  After spending many hours searching other posts online and in these forums, I am wondering if the issue is the type of SSD I purchased?  To clarify, I purchased a m.2 NVMe drive when perhaps I should have purchased an m.2 SATA iii?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

As per the configuration the SSD should be M.2 SATA ☺️
