HP ProBook 450 G2
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

Dear HP Experts,

I'm planning to extend the ssd storage on my HP ProBook 450 G2 (which originally has 128 GB ssd primary slot) with m.2 version - e.g.

http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-850-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-n5e25....

My question is: do I need to remove the original ssd or I can keep it and just add new m.2 slot (so I can run the operation system from m.2 and leave the rest of the stuff on 128 GB)?

Thank you,

Imre

Hi,

Video for replacement of your laptop: https://h20574.www2.hp.com/results.htm?SID=6943826&MEID=5FEA0982-7848-4F53-B004-966096792558

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04341970

Your laptop came with 120gb M.2 2242 SSD in the M.2 wireless WWAN slot.

Page 46, 47: Your only option to put another SSD is in 2.5 inch SATA bay.

If M.2 2242 SSD is the boot drive, 2.5 inch drive can be made as storage drive.

Visruth,

One more question: I've run Win system report and it seems I have this SSD: LITEON IT LCS 128L9S 11 (128GB).

Do you think I can use M.2 SSD slot in parallel?

Thank you,

Imre

Hi,

That SSD is a 2.5 inch form factor or M.2 SSD?

Hi,

The Liteon SSD (installed one) is standard 2.5 inch.

Hi,

In that case,
You can put M.2 2242 SSD in WWAN slot, if:
Your laptop don't have Celeron or Pentium processors and your laptop did not come with WWAN from factory.

Are there WWAN antennae present in your notebook, open back cover and check?
The M.2 storage device cannot be used on models that have WWAN.
Do you have a WWAN card?

The Samsung M.2 SSD you linked is 2280 form factor, so it is not compatible

See Page 54-55

Unfortunately you've to get exact part number for gauranteed compatibility:
https://www.amazon.com/HP-768469-001-SPS-SSD-120GB-SATA-3/dp/B00L9HAYM2

This is only suggestion I can give you. Unfortunately I'm not the one who build it, so don't shoot me.
