I am wanting to upgrade the ram on my laptop and im being told by the vendor that It can be upgraded to 64gb, however when you review the Maintenance and Service Guide for the Victus by HP Laptop 16-d0023dx it doesn't specify and whenever you run wmic memphysical get maxcapacity, the MaxCapacity is showing as 32gb (33554432). So am I right to assume it is 32gb and the vendor is wrong?

Thank you for your response! I managed to get it working, which makes me think the manual was referring to a single channel.
RAM solution: After installing the memory, it showed up as 64GB, but Windows was only utilizing 4GB. I updated the BIOS drivers, and then Windows started using the full 64GB.
SSD solution: I decided to add a second SSD, but Windows didn't recognize it. I had to use Disk Management to set up the SSD.

Hi @ldale2006,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re doing your due diligence to confirm the maximum RAM capacity, and it’s understandable that conflicting information would raise questions.
The WMIC command (wmic memphysical get maxcapacity) retrieves information from the system’s BIOS and firmware, which sometimes provides a more accurate reflection of the system’s designed capabilities. Since it’s showing 32GB as the max capacity, it suggests that 32GB is likely the upper limit, and the vendor may be mistaken.
Here are a couple of things you might try to further confirm:
- Check the Memory Slot Specifications: The HP Maintenance and Service Guide typically includes the maximum supported memory configuration for each slot (e.g., 16GB per slot for two slots). If it doesn’t specify, it may be due to the design intent at the time of the device’s release.
- Reviewing CPU Specifications: If you know the exact CPU model in your Victus, check its memory support capabilities. This might offer clues, as some Intel CPUs support only 32GB.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
