Stock 4gb filling 1 of 2 slots in an HP laptop 15 AF131DX. Gonna upgrade, just cant find the ACTUAL max ram, supposedly 8 or 16. Can anybody with the same laptop that knows help me out please? Wanna use it to game, so Im hoping its a 16gb. Also, does this laptop have bluetooth? I couldnt find it in device settings nor device manager, and I figured it would have it installed. Any help is appreciated.

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04797004
1. RAM: You can upgrade to 16GB max of the following RAM (will run a bit cooler)
https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr3/ct102464bf160b/ct9660913
2. Bluetooth: Your machine does not have BT you can use

There are many brands and models around, cheaper too.
Regards.

Saw the specs page before, it doesnt say the max though, only its stock ram in gb. Ive also seen multiple tech sites say 8, and some say 16, probably to make sells. I cant afford to waste money. What I save from 8gb to 16gb could be my bluetooth adapter.

Hi, @Darkrott
You can replace the existing wifi card with this model which is both dual band and comes with Bluetooth.
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.
You can find this model on eBay, or Ali Express.
I see some Intel 3165 cards listed on the eBay listings, so don't buy those.

RTL8821CE - Buy RTL8821CE with free shipping on AliExpress
On the Ali Express listings, make sure the card has the HP Part # of 915620-001.
Below is the link to the service manual for the model series, where you can find the wifi card removal and replacement procedure.

Memory: Crucial indicates you can upgrade to 2 x 8 GB.

You can confirm what the max memory your notebook can support by:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

after the division, its 4. surely its upgradable past 4gb
its got 2 slots. im not sure if I should get an additional 4gb, much less 2 8gb sticks. I think all these are only showing the allocated 4gb stick installed, not the max. the bios even showed 4gb.12-14-2021 07:53 PM - edited 12-14-2021 07:54 PM
Over my pay scale. Here's the Service Manual In it it lists memory modules in 8, 4 and 2GB modules, and it has 2 slots, so 16GB should be the limit.
edit- Look on Crucial's site, if they list it as 16GB and it doesn't work, they will make it right.
