Hi, I would like to upgrade the memory on the laptop, the existing one has a 8GB on it, part no. HP26D4S9S8ME-8, DDR4-2666, Module Manuf. Kinston, DRAM Manuf. Micron Technology. Just wonder what is the best way to upgrade it to 16GB, 2x8GB or 1x16GB? Is there any beneficial to have 2 channels by 2x8GB vs 1x16GB? If adding one 8GB to existing one, do the memory boards, such as Crucial ones listed on the HP hardware upgrade site compatible to the existing one on the laptop currently? Or any brand of DRAM4 2666 should work to make it double channels? Please advise.

Hi:

Below is the link to the crucial memory/SSD report for your notebook.

The only reason I post this link is because they guarantee compatibility.

Crucial is a division of Micron, so perhaps that is in your favor too.

Best to install 2 x 8 GB of memory, vice 1 x 16 GB.  If you install a 16 GB chip in there, you may as well leave the 8 GB chip in too.

With an empty slot or mismatched memory capacities, the memory runs in the lower performing single channel mode.

With matching memory capacity in both slots, the memory runs in the higher performing dual channel mode.
