memtest86+ freezes at 1 second in test #2 at 71 % in fail save mode. Is this a known issue or could a hardware problem be the cause?

If you have 2 memory modules try removing one then the other and run the test in each configuration. I have had zero problems with memtest86 unless there was bad memory in the machine.

There is one module installed and one slot free. I don't want to open the laptop, at least as long as it is nearly new. The last sentence answers my question.
