I have had this happen when I forgot to use the eject procedure. It could also happen if the OS is accessing the SD and the eject does not work.
Quick Fixes Without Rebooting
- Re-seat the SD card: Remove the card, wait 5 seconds, and firmly push it back into the slot. Sometimes the physical pins lose contact or the driver fails to re-register the insertion event.[ref_1]
- Rescan storage in Device Manager (Windows):
- Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
- Click on Action in the top menu and select Scan for hardware changes. This forces the OS to re-query the card reader slot.
- If the card or reader has a yellow triangle, right-click it and choose Enable device.[ref_1]
- Assign or change the drive letter (Windows):
- Right-click the Start button and open Disk Management.
- Look for the SD card in the lower list. If it appears without a drive letter (like 😧 or E:), right-click its partition and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths.
