when booting up the laptop get message saying no os installed? sometimes it will boot up, but only for a few seconds then crashes. sadly I have not backed up my data. what are my options. please help. is the intel warranty still active?

Unless you extended the 1-year warranty, it is unlikely the notebook is under warranty anymore because it is at least 4 years old.
If you did not purchase and install the drive, it has the same warranty as the rest of the notebook--1 year.
Retail drives would have different serial numbers than a drive installed by a PC manufacturer.

Your PC seems to be one of those that came with an Intel 512 GB SSD with a 32 GB Intel Optane memory cache.
I recommend that you replace that type drive with a standard NVMe SSD.

Then you will have to reinstall Windows on the new drive.
