i have three hp probooks the 6460b the 6465b and the 6570b probooks. i have a handle on a used hp probook 6470b motherboard to put in one of the other laptops so i can get the fingerprint scanner that i have to work on it. the 6465b has the board connection that is broken and i do not have the ability to resolder it the 6460b does not have the fingerprint scanner connector so installing another motherboard would be my best option to get one of these to use the scanner. i want to get the fingerprint scanner operational on one of them so i have 2 pc's with fingerprint scanners that work.
the boards look the same so i figure the only thing i need to do is take out the cpu and put it in the new to me board. so can anyone tell me if this will work?
thanks

Do the motherboards have part numbers on them? The Service Manual for each model will show the motherboards that will fit.
I have not looked myself but if you need me to translate the Manual for you I will. Since its two different manuals I'm thinking the motherboards are not interchangeable but the text will tell.

yes they do, do you have the manual for the 6470b and the 6465b you posted 2 but when i went to reply i did not see them. you sent the 6460b but also the 6570b i do not have that pc.
here are the board numbers. thanks

You said you had a 6570b in so many words. The 6465b is an AMD system and is not going to share a board with any model ending in zero

yes i did my big fat finger got it the way and i did not catch it as i posted. that is why i put the number up so you could actually see what is was talking about and to find the part numbers as i have no clue what numbers on all those stickers was. now i think it is the m/b sps numbers. thanks the number i have access to is the 686035-001 so if that will fit any of my pc's it may be a good find to have as a spare. so when i was gathering those numbers now my 6465b has stopped working for some reason. so if that board will fit in that pc i will grab it and replace the motherboard in that 6465b unit. i changed hard drive and the hd light will not light up so something went wrong. it may have just been it was getting ready to fail. that board will fit in the pc i'm using now to right this so if it will work in the 6465b i will grab it.
thanks

ok i got the motherboard for the 6565b the numbers matched from ebay but that did the same thing. i installed the new to me motherboard started it up and it would not access the hard drive. so i took out the hard drive and booted it and nothing. the hard drive lamp is not even flashing like i wants to read any data. i even took a torchlight and held it to the screen to see if maybe it was doing something but the backlight was bad and i did not see anything. so i plugged in a monitor and nothing happened. to test this i plugged the monitor into this pc and the monitor turned on. so that is not the case with the 6465b pc something else has happened.
i guess i may have got a bad motherboard, the seller is sending me out 2 more to test, but maybe someone here can guide me thru some tests to see if i can get anything to show. i have most preferials connected but i do not think not having everything connected would keep the screen off.
thanks for any ideas and help.

Yes you can boot a motherboard outside the case on a bench as long as you have power connected and a way to switch it on or off. Just make sure there are no extra mounting points that do not line up with screwholes in the motherboard, which will tend to short it out and keep it from POSTing.

thanks what i did was mount the motherboard and used the 3 screws that actually hold the board to the frame. i connected the screen and the fan the wifi and the cmos batt. plus whatever the connection was next to the screen by the fan then the keyboard.
connected the HD and the battery plus the power supply and turned on the power and all i got was the wifi the power the charge that turned on and the hd flickered red then a fast green and then out. it deems i should not need the modem or whatever the board is that sets in front of the modem or the mic and earphones.
i have 2 more motherboards now in the mail and when they get here if they have the cmos batt on them i wil not remove it as that may be why all this happened. i measured both cmos batteries and the on in the new board had 2.85 volts and my old batt had 3.0 volts that seemed to me to be good enough for running the system.
thanks
