HP Notebook - 15-bs544tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

so, a week ago my USB ports stopped working all of them. I thought it was a driver issue then I updated my drivers via Windows update but the problem persisted. I noticed that there is unusual heat arising around one of the USB ports (the right one far from the Processor). I got help from windows support, they told me that my BIOS is outdated. but few questions in my mind- 1. why is there unusual heat which was never before? 2. why should I update BIOS?

Hi, @Rajeev01

There are plenty of laptops that will stop overheating with BIOS updates. Just to make sure that the BIOS is the problem, check if your BIOS has an option to run the fan at full speed. If that fixes your overheating problem, it's a problem with the fan curve. BIOS updates are a “if it ain't broke, don't fix it” kind of thing, unless you really need to update it.

If you eventually want to update your BIOS you can use this link.

Updating BIOS is really a big deal? should i do it manually?

Hi, @Rajeev01 you can do it manually. However, if you are not comfortable doing it on your own, see if you can reach out to HP Support to give you more guidance about the challenge and prefer possible solutions.
