Hi @BassaiDai,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding slowed down PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check for Overheating
- If your laptop gets hot, it may be throttling performance.
- Use HWMonitor or Core Temp to check CPU temperature.
- Make sure vents and fans are clean. Use a cooling pad if necessary.
Check RAM & Task Manager
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) → Performance tab.
- Look at Memory Usage. If it's close to 100%, you might have a memory leak.
- Go to the Processes tab → Sort by CPU or Memory to find which app is consuming the most resources.
- Close unnecessary programs.
Disable Startup Programs
- Open Task Manager → Startup tab.
- Disable programs you don’t need at startup.
Update Drivers & Windows
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for Updates.
- Open Device Manager → Right-click Display Adapter, Network Adapter, and Chipset → Click Update driver.
Scan for Malware
- Run Windows Defender or Malwarebytes to check for malware slowing down the system.
Check Virtual Memory (Page file Settings)
- Right-click This PC → Properties → Advanced System Settings.
- Under Performance, click Settings → Advanced.
- Under Virtual Memory, click Change.
- Set it to "Automatically manage paging file size" if it's not already.
Run System Maintenance
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: sfc /scannow
- This checks and fixes corrupted system files.
Then run: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- This fixes Windows system issues.
Check for Failing Hardware
- Run a Hard Drive Check:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type: chkdsk /f /r
- Press Y, restart your laptop, and let it scan.
- If your SSD/HDD is failing, back up your data and consider replacing it.
If the Issue Persists
- Try a clean boot (disabling non-Microsoft services). If nothing works, a Windows reset or fresh install may be needed.
Let me know what happens after these steps! 😊
