Yes the USB-C port is for data transfer only so it is essentially a slightly faster version of a legacy USB port. It does not put out a video signal and will not accept an incoming charge. There is no way around the latter limitation. You have to use the provided AC adapter to charge the laptop. It will support a dock or port replicator with DisplayLink technology and such a dock can also serve as a USB hub for plugging in a mouse, keyboard, and such docks will also commonly have an audio jack and an ethernet port included. The dock will provide dual or more external monitor ports that can do extended desktop. The performance is not wonderful. You will get some video stutter if you try to do serious gaming but its good enough for office work (spreadsheets) and watching videos on the external monitor(s).
