Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I just bought my laptop and its battery drains fast. Like it is fully charged and then around minutes later, it will be 67%. All of the battery health is good. Nothing is wrong with the battery because I have checked it. I have also done all the optimization tips that was said to me to improve battery life but nothing works so far.

Hi @lizkix

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how concerning it can be when a new laptop's battery drains much faster than expected. Since you've already checked the battery health and tried the recommended optimization steps, let's gather a few more details to determine whether this is caused by software, settings, or a hardware issue.

Could you please help me with the following information?

  • What is the exact model number of your HP laptop?
  • Which version of Windows are you using (Windows 11 or Windows 10)?
  • Approximately how long does the battery last from 100% to a low charge during normal use?
  • Does the battery drain quickly even when the laptop is idle, or only while you're actively using it?
  • Have you noticed if the laptop becomes warm or if the cooling fan runs constantly during battery use?
  • Have you updated the BIOS, Windows, and HP drivers through Windows Update or HP Support Assistant?

In the meantime, please try generating a Battery Report so we can review the battery's performance:

  • Press Windows + X and select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type the following command and press Enter:
  • powercfg /batteryreport
  • The report will be saved at:
  • C:\Users\<YourUserName>\battery-report.html

Open the report and share screenshots of the Installed batteries, Battery capacity history, and Battery life estimates sections.

This information will help determine whether the battery is discharging normally under load or if there is an underlying issue that requires further troubleshooting. If the battery is dropping from 100% to around 67% within minutes under light usage, that is not typical behavior for a new laptop and should be investigated further.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi thank you

Here is my battery report - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XWjAQoFRD4-7tk1zGDaqcVonnvwHaiJ-/view?usp=sharing

here is my energy report in case you need it also - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ki7L9dllWvyg5QMvxT_iUAqbsF_AaAKY/view?usp=drive_link

It does gets too hot where the fan is located. Also my BIOS, Windows, and HP drivers are all updated based from the HP support assistant.

This also uses windows 11 and I am not totally sure on the exact model of this laptop because it only shows HP HP Laptop 14-ep1xxx. I do hope you can identify it using the battery and energy report. As for how long I can use it from 100% to a low charge, I cannot give a clear estimate since I haven't track my time yet as I usually do not use my laptop on continuously because some of the things I do not need a laptop.

Hi @lizkix

Thank you for sharing the details from the energy report and for providing additional information about the heat you're experiencing.

Based on the information you've shared, the battery itself appears to be in excellent condition. With a design capacity and full charge capacity of 41,040 mWh and only 6 charge cycles, there are no signs of battery wear or degradation.

Regarding the heat near the fan, some warmth is expected when the processor is under load, but excessive heat may indicate that background applications or processes are causing the CPU to work harder than expected. Since your energy report shows higher-than-normal CPU usage, it would be helpful to identify what applications or services are consuming system resources.

Could you kindly provide the following details?

  • What tasks are you typically performing when the laptop becomes  ?
  • Does the fan run constantly, or does it only become active during certain activities?
  • Is the laptop placed on a hard, flat surface with adequate ventilation?
  • Could you share a screenshot of the Task Manager (Processes tab) when you notice the laptop getting hot?

Once we have the exact screenshot of the Task Manager, we'll be in a better position to determine whether the heat and battery consumption are normal for your device or if additional troubleshooting is required.

Have a good day.
