Hi @Jewalz
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your black command prompt screen is appearing unexpectedly on Windows, it could be caused by a few different issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:
Check Startup Programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Startup tab and see if there are any suspicious programs that might be launching the command prompt. Disable any unnecessary items.
Scan for Malware:
- Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another trusted antivirus program. Malware can sometimes trigger command prompt windows.
Look for Scheduled Tasks:
- Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc, and hit Enter.
- Check under Task Scheduler Library for any tasks that might be launching the command prompt.
Check System Files:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (right-click and select "Run as administrator").
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter to check for corrupted system files.
Check Event Viewer:
- Press Win + R, type eventvwr, and hit Enter.
- Look under Windows Logs > Application or System for any errors or warnings that might give you a clue about what’s happening.
Review Recent Changes:
- Consider any recent installations or updates that might be causing the issue. If you’ve recently installed new software, try uninstalling it to see if the problem resolves.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
