hi i hope I'm not going ot sound too thick now haha. my notebook battery is not holding its charge. it is working ok when it is connected to the electric. But i am not sure that when i close the lid it is shutting down! i can still hear the computer working. id be grateful for some help

I suggest using the Windows Battery Report. Compare the Factory designed charge to the current full charge level.
I explained how to use it in the article below at the hyperlink.
If the power led is off it should be silent.
Unless you actually mean to use hibernate or sleep, you would be better off shutting it down with the shut down in Windows.
Check the Power options settings in Windows to see what the "choose what closing the lid does" is set for.
