I have an HP Pavilion dv6 and it's only about 3 months old.  Since I have had it I have had a problem with my cursor jumping around randomly while I am typing.  I have disabled the tap on the touchpad and also chose to hide the cursor while typing. but nothing helps.  It's extremely annoying.
I am a student so I can't afford to send my laptop away to have it checked out.

Any ideas?

This was not helpful for me as I must have a different version of the Synaptics software.  I do not have the option to change the sensitivity.  my version says version V7.5,.

Are there other instructions to provide for that version?

Thank you.

Actually, you do.  Do not click on the Synaptics logo on Control Panel, click on Mouse.  Drilling down into this area you will find "sensitivity".  In Mouse Properties, select the last tab - TouchPad Settings.  Select TouchPad Settings button.  The list that appears has a "Pointing" option.  Click the small arrow to the left of the word Pointing and more options will appear.  One of them is Sensitivity.  By selecting Sensivity here, you can adjust the sensitivity of the pad from light to heavy touch.  Go to a heavier touch setting and see if that doesn't correct the issue.  Don't go all the way to the heaviest setting available.  Select something about half way up from the current sensitivity, see how that works and then increase it more if necessary.

To stop the cursor jumping all over while I am typing a document I did the following:

I went into Control Panel: Hardware and Sound: Mouse in Devices and Printers: Pointer Options: Motion - where I slowed the speed down just a little .

It seems to have worked for me.  I have an HP laptop.  Hope this is of help to you.
