Hi @Kruple,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Cursor jumping while typing can be a frustrating issue, often caused by a few common factors. Here’s a guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Check for External Causes

Touchpad Sensitivity:

  • If you're using a laptop, the touchpad may be too sensitive or your palms might accidentally touch it while typing.
  • Adjust the touchpad sensitivity settings.
  • Disable the touchpad temporarily to see if the issue persists. On Windows, you can do this via Settings > Devices > Touchpad.

External Mouse:

  • If you're using an external mouse, ensure it’s working properly and not causing interference.
  • Disconnect the external mouse and see if the issue persists with just the touchpad.

2. Adjust Touchpad Settings

Adjust Sensitivity:

  • For Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and adjust the sensitivity settings.
  • For macOS: Go to System Preferences > Trackpad and adjust the tracking speed.

Disable Touchpad While Typing:

  • Some touchpad settings allow you to disable the touchpad while typing to prevent accidental cursor movement.

3. Update Drivers

Update Touchpad Drivers:

  • For Windows: Go to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click your touchpad device and select Update driver.
  • For macOS: Ensure macOS is up to date as touchpad drivers are included in system updates.

Check for System Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date to fix any bugs that might be causing cursor issues.

4. Check for Software Conflicts

Close Background Applications:

  • Some applications running in the background can interfere with cursor movement.
  • Close unnecessary applications and check if the issue persists.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • Boot your computer in a clean state to determine if any third-party software is causing the problem.
  • On Windows, you can perform a clean boot by typing msconfig in the Run dialog, then selecting Selective startup and unchecking Load startup items.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
