Hi @SKB17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding laptop's battery drain issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

  1. Check for Background Processes:

    • Review running applications and processes. Some programs, especially those running in the background, can consume a significant amount of power.
    • Close unnecessary programs using the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  2. Adjust Power Settings:

    • Navigate to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Power & Sleep'.
    • Adjust settings to lower power consumption, such as reducing screen brightness or changing the sleep settings.
    • Choose a power plan focused on battery saving.
  3. Update Drivers:

    • Ensure all system drivers, especially related to power management and the battery, are up-to-date. Check for updates in 'Device Manager'.
  4. Check Battery Health:

    • Some laptops have built-in battery tests available in the BIOS or through manufacturer software.
    • If the battery is old, it may have reduced capacity and need replacement.
  5. Perform a Battery Calibration:

    • Charge your battery to 100%, then use the laptop on battery power until it drains completely and powers off.
    • Recharge to 100% again without interruption. This can sometimes recalibrate the battery sensor.
  6. Scan for Malware:

    • Malware can sometimes cause high power usage. Run a full system scan using antivirus software.
  7. Inspect Hardware:

    • If possible, check the battery for physical damage.
    • Ensure that vents are unobstructed and the fan is functioning, as overheating can increase power draw.
  8. Check for Operating System Updates:

    • Ensure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Updates can sometimes resolve issues with power management.

I hope this helps.
