Hi @dlx696,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the built-in keyboard of your HP Pavilion x360 - 14 is not working and updating the driver didn’t resolve the issue, here are some steps you can try.

Test the Keyboard in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
  • Once in the BIOS, try using the keyboard:
    • If it works in BIOS, the issue is likely with the operating system or drivers.
    • If it doesn’t work in BIOS, the problem is likely hardware-related.

Reinstall the Keyboard Driver

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Locate Keyboards, expand the list, and right-click on your keyboard driver (usually labeled "Standard PS/2 Keyboard").
  3. Select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Test in Safe Mode:
    • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode (hold Shift while selecting Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart > choose Safe Mode).
    • Check if the keyboard works.
  • If it works in Safe Mode, a third-party application or service might be interfering. Uninstall any recent software or run a clean boot.

Update System Drivers and BIOS

  • Visit the HP Support website and:
    • Download and install the latest chipset and keyboard drivers for your specific model.
    • Check for a BIOS update, as it can sometimes resolve hardware communication issues.

Test with External Keyboard

  • Connect an external USB keyboard:
    • If the external keyboard works, this confirms the issue is isolated to the built-in keyboard.

Perform a System Restore

  • Roll back your system to a previous point where the keyboard was working:
    • Open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.
    • Choose a restore point and follow the prompts.

Hardware Check

  • If none of the above steps work, the keyboard itself might be physically damaged:
    • Ensure there is no dust or debris under the keys (use compressed air carefully).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
