Hi @midas08,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Victus laptop's battery is draining even when it is fully shut down, it could be due to several factors. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
Fast Startup Feature:
- Disable the fast startup feature in Windows 10/11, as it can sometimes cause power drain. To do this, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. Then, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable, and uncheck the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option.
Wake-on-LAN:
- This feature allows the computer to be turned on remotely and can cause battery drain. To disable Wake-on-LAN, go to Device Manager > Network adapters, right-click on your network device, select Properties, go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck Allow this device to wake the computer.
USB Power:
- Some laptops provide power to USB ports while turned off to charge external devices, which can drain the battery. This setting can often be found in the BIOS. Restart your laptop, access the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Delete during startup), and look for any settings related to USB charging or power management to disable it.
BIOS Update:
- Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Sometimes BIOS updates address power management issues. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP support website for your specific model.
Battery Health:
- Check the health of your battery. If the battery is old or has been subjected to extreme temperatures, it might not hold charge properly. You can use HP's Battery Check tool, which is part of HP Support Assistant, to evaluate the condition of your battery.
Note:
Full Shutdown: Make sure you are fully shutting down your laptop instead of putting it in sleep or hibernate mode. To ensure a full shutdown, you can use the command shutdown /s /f in the command prompt.
Check for Background Tasks: Occasionally, pending updates or tasks can resume upon shutdown leading to battery drain. Ensure all updates and tasks are completed before shutdown.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
