HP Pavilion - 15-au158nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Pavilion laptop/Windows 10  recognizes every 3.0 flash drive I connect to any of its three USB ports.  However it has stopped recognizing any 2.0 flash drive and it has stopped recognizing the receiver for my wireless Logitech k295 keyboard.  The keyboard and 2.0 flash drives work fine on other computers.  How can I get 2.0 driver software or some other fix to this problem (on my Pavilion)?  Thank you in advance.

Hi @hp7612 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Pavilion laptop is not recognizing USB 2.0 devices, it's possible that there might be an issue with the USB drivers. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Update USB Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model (15-Au158nr).
  • Navigate to the "Drivers and Downloads" section.
  • Look for USB drivers compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit) and download them.
  • Install the drivers and restart your laptop.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section.
  • Look for any entries with a yellow exclamation mark or "Unknown device."
  • Right-click on the affected device and select "Update driver" to search for updated drivers automatically.

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Visit the HP Support website and check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS.

USB Troubleshooter:

  • Windows 10 has a built-in USB troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix USB-related problems.
  • Type "Troubleshoot" in the Windows search bar and select "Troubleshoot settings."
  • Scroll down and click on "Additional troubleshooters."
  • Select "Hardware and Devices" and run the troubleshooter.

Check Power Management Settings:

  • Sometimes, power management settings can interfere with USB devices.
  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section.
  • Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select "Properties."
  • Go to the "Power Management" tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
  • Repeat this for all USB Root Hubs and restart your laptop.

Restore System to Earlier Point:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your system to an earlier point when USB 2.0 devices were working fine.
  • Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and select "Create a restore point."
  • Click on "System Restore" and follow the instructions to restore your system to a previous state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
