I'm moving from a 27" HP desktop to a 17" laptop. This will be my only PC and the idea of plugging it in and unplugging it all the time to keep it charged but not overcharged seems like a lot of work. Can I remove the battery (please include directions) and simply leave it plugged in all the time?

Hi:
You should be able to run the notebook without the battery, but I don't think you will like it very much.
Every time you start the notebook you will most likely get a CMOS checksum error and you will need to reset the time and date to clear the error and restart the notebook again.
That is because your notebook does not have a CMOS battery to maintain the date and time settings like they had in the good old days.
The main battery also serves as the CMOS battery.
Here is the link to the service manual where you can find the battery removal and replacement procedure.

There is also this service teardown video.
Before diving into this project, you may want to read the info at the link below for how to get the most life out of your notebook's battery.

Thank you, Paul for this information. I will read the articles you suggested and decide if removing the battery is more trouble than plugging it in off and on to re-charge. Your expertise is much appreciated.
