The m.2 socket is on this board, but there is no hole for the bolt that would otherwise hold the ssd.  Huh?

Isn't the standoff on the case?

 

I'm looking at an eBay listing of the motherboard your PC comes with and the drive would extend off the motherboard.

This service video shows how the SSD is oriented.  There's no standoff there?

The video shows my MB, but if you look closely you can see the M.2 slot has no standoff where it should be, just 2 holes that are off to the right (would not line up with m.2 ssd).
