Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

the battery of my notebook does not charge. Windows displayed me a message that the battery is almost empty and after some minutes the notebook shuts down. Now the nootbook does nothing anymore.

Even the LED next to the charging plug does not turn on if the power supply is connected. The power supply works as expected.

Unfortunately this happens 15 months after I bought the notebook....hence I have no guarantee anymore.

What can I do now? I would expect a much better quality of a product of HP.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi @TW003 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you’re experiencing with your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 could be due to several factors, such as a faulty battery, a damaged charging circuit, or an issue with the power supply. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

May I know

1. Since when are you facing this issue

2. Have you made any changes on your PC post that this issue raised

3. Do You see a light glowing on the power button and next to the charging Port

1. Verify the Power Supply

  • Ensure the power adapter is functional. Use a multimeter to check if the adapter is outputting the correct voltage.
  • Try another power adapter. Even if the current one seems to work, testing with another compatible adapter can rule out issues with the power supply.

2. Inspect the Charging Port

  • Check for physical damage. Look for bent or damaged pins in the charging port.
  • Clean the charging port. Dust or debris inside the port can prevent proper contact. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean it gently.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power supply and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual charge.
  • Reconnect the power supply (leave the battery out if removable) and try powering on the laptop.

4. Check the Battery

  • If the battery is removable, try running the laptop with the charger plugged in but without the battery. If it works, the battery is likely faulty.
  • If the battery is non-removable, consider reaching out to a technician to test the battery directly.

5. Look for Signs of Life

  • Observe the LED indicators on the laptop. If none light up, the issue could be with the internal charging circuitry or the motherboard.

6. Reset the BIOS

  • If the laptop powers on briefly, enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or DEL during startup).
  • Reset the BIOS to default settings and check if it resolves the issue.

7. Run the hardware test HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

Also, try updating the computer:

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on Install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates:

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on Install and restart the computer.

8. Let us try Battery Calibration,

Please charge your computer for 100% disconnect the charger and continue working on it till the battery drains completely to 0% then connect the charger and  once the unit is charged 100% check

9. Battery Replacement

If the issue is determined to be with the battery:

Refer to this document: HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 (4V792AV) User manaul
HP Notebook PCs - The battery does not power the notebook or hold a charge

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Gaya1239,

I face the issue for 2 weeks.
I do not changes on the PC.
Both LED are turned off all the time.

1 I checked the power supply by a multimeter. Voltage is corect.

2 No damage on charing port. Port is clean.

3 Hard Reset is performed and same behaviour as before.

4 It is a non-removable battery. In case someone opens the case of the PC, I will lost guarantee. How is an approved technician? How can I find one?

5 There are no signs of life, no fan is active, no led is flashing or glowing, screen is black.

6 not possible.

7 not possible.

8 not possible.

The issue is still opened.
