Thank you for replying with this overwhelming and detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
Unfortunately, you cannot take individual keys off.
You can take the entire keyboard off and have it replaced at a local store or via HP Parts store (your call),
That said, I understand your predicament and I hope this expert reply could help you: Click here for alternative suggested by our HP Expert.
However, the above isn't suggested by HP and therefore I cannot help you with the same.
The best I can suggest is to get in touch with a local store, so that they may help replace the key (if available),

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
As I understand the number 2 key isn't working as it should,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you drop liquid or have any accidents with the keyboard?
When was the last time it worked without this issue?
Did you check with an alternate user account or an external keyboard to check if all the keys on that work?
While you respond to that, here's a few things you can do:
- Clean the keyboard with compressed air (blow compressed air in the gaps between keys). This removes some lint and dust.
- Shut down the laptop, remove the battery and cable for a moment, press and hold the start button for 60 seconds
- Replace the battery, restart the notebook,
- if the issue persists, Contact HP to set up a repair/replacement order (free of cost if covered within the HP Warranty).
Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number to obtain a case along with the phone number.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Regarding your reply;
-didn't drop any liquid or have any accidents
-last time it worked was a few months ago
-tried two other accounts with no luck.Also I don't have another keyboard
Things to try;
-I need to buy some compressed air this week
-what is consider the START button for Windows 8.1?
Thanks for your help

I tried the other test you mentioned;clean with compressed air,remove power(electric & battery),hold start key down for 60 seconds and restore all power and reboot.This did not resolve my problem.My machine is out of warranty and I can't afford a repair right now.Is there anything else I can do,i.e.,replace a single key,etc?
