Hi! I have a problem with my GPU. It is vanished from my computer it seems. I tried literally every tip on the internet. Driver is not hidden. I have no updates to do for anything. Bios is fully updated. It is also untraceable in BIOS. I think it happened after I updated my Windows version. I am not able to go back to the previous version. I tried to download the driver from hp support (of course), Nvidia panel does not detect the card. I tried the whole wagnards uninstall driver thing with safe reboot disconnected from internet enz... and a lot more. It just does not show up in my device manager. Is it broken?

Hi:
What I suggest you do would be to back up your files and use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10 the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support
If the graphics adapter still does not show up after using the recovery tool media to basically factory reset the notebook, then you can probably conclude that the Nvidia GPU has failed, and that would require a motherboard replacement to fix it.

Hi!
I did what you suggested. I successfully made the recovery drive on the usb. I turned the computer off. Now it won't start anymore. It just turns on for a bit, i hear a squeek and it turns off. This repeats itself forever, well untill I hold the power button to turn it completely off. I removed all cables and usb, sd cards. It doesn't change anything. What can i do? Is now my whole computer broken? Hope not....
Thank you!

You're very welcome.
That doesn't sound good at all.
Simply using the PC to create a bootable recovery drive should not have caused that to happen.
Unfortunately I would have no idea why the PC won't turn on anymore.

Can it be something to do with heat? I let it cool for few minutes because it was very warm and turned it back on and it is not crashing anymore. Weird... now it is setting everything back to it's factory settings. If this is the solution, I have to be aware of windows updates right? Not do them at all?
Thank you again!

You're very welcome.
Yep...maybe you wore the poor thing out making the media and it had to rest.
I wouldn't do any updates until you can confirm the nvidia card is back in the device manager.
Then proceed with caution when doing the updates if it does come back.

Ok so, i got it back to factory settings. Unfortunately no nvidia card detected in device manager... Do you know if this happens a lot? I don't know how this could have happend because I'm always very careful with it. I got the laptop in 2018 and it is pretty expensive.. would it it cost a lot to replace the motherboard?

Hi:
Sorry to read that factory resetting the PC didn't resolve the problem.
Unfortunately, I don't keep track of the frequency of instances like that.
I have seen a few posts like yours, so you are definitely not alone, but I have not seen so many as I have for the HP Spectre motherboards burning out.
I guess it happens from time to time that the Nvidia GPU gets hot over time and one day just quits.
Replacing the motherboard would be expensive, and that would be assuming you could even find the part for it.
The part is not available from HP. I checked the HP-Netherlands parts store.

Based on your notebook's specs, it looks like you need this motherboard listed in chapter 3, page 21 of the service manual..
Equipped with an Intel Core i7-8550U 1.80-GHz (turbo up to 4.00-GHz) quad core processor (2400-MHz, 8.0-MB L3 cache, 15-W), an NVIDIA N17S-G1 (GeForce MX150) graphics subsystem with up to 2048-MB of discrete video memory (256-MB×32 GDDR5×2 pieces, 1.35-V/3-GHz, 1.5-V 7-Gbps downgrade to 1.35-V 7-Gbps), and the Windows 10 operating system

Hi!
It has been a while and frankly I had given up... But now something happened!
After the reset to factory settings the graphics card from nvidia was not detectable at all in device manager. However after updating BIOS it is there under hidden devices! This made me very happy. But now I can not install it. The Nvidia installer says ''This graphic driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.'' So now I have this problem. Is there any way to fix this? I downloaded the driver from HP support. I also tried to get it from Nvidia. Then i get the same error with the error that is not compatible with my version of Windows.
Do you know what I can try next? That it now shows up in my device manager says that it is found?
Thank you!

Hi:
It seems like the GPU is still hidden, which is why it shows up in the device manager as hidden, and the graphics drivers aren't installing.
Is there any settings you can change in the BIOS to unhide it, or enable it?
