Hi everyone just a quick question here really, I have a clients laptop who wants to have a hard drive installed - Now I know now that this is not possible for a SATA to be installed despite the fact that they don't make the ribbon SATA cable nor have the capability to have such a drive installed, a Bit silly really cause the motherboard has the fitting on the board to attach a cable and the slot for an SSD drive, for example, to be fitted.
So my question is I want to put an NVMe hard drive instead but not sure exactly which type I require, There are so many to choose from. It's a shame cause the laptop has a very small internal drive already but the motherboard can take an NVMe hard drive, But confusing as it is, I just need to know really what type I need and to what the maximum amount I can put into this laptop, I will be doing the BIOS update to the latest as having seen in BIOS already and say hard drive not fitted so I am assuming I can install one, Or at least I am willing to spend some money and try at least. I have tried similar things before on a Macbook pro 2012 maxed it out to 16GB and 1TB SSD even though Apple says you can't do that yet I succeded in this and am writing this question on my apple MacBook right now with no problems at all in 4 years, In fact, it's superfast...
Would appreciate any guidance on this simple question as am browsing around for a drive but I have come across a few different ones not sure which to buy, for example, 256GB or 500GB or even 1TB.
Thank you
Wayne.

According to the maintenance and service guide https://www.support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-14-bp000-laptop-pc/15551432/model/17320158/manuals
You can use a standard SATA 3 M2 2280 drive and there appears to be a slot for a standard 9mm 2.5" harddrive however this device will not support an NVMe drive.
I am a volunteer, offering my knowledge to support fellow users, I do not work for HP nor speak for HP.

Thank you for the advice, however, I think you may be wrong here, as the drive you are suggesting SATA 3 M2 2280 has 2 cut out points to the drive that inserts into the slot that is on the board here. It's an NVMe style drive that fits as I have one at present spare and fits - I am also messing around with BIOS right now to try to override this and will update here if I find a way to get around it there.
Really stupid design by HP where my client bought it and has only 50+GB of data on the internal partition, yet there is the capability to install a standard hard drive or SSD drive but don't make the cable attach to the driver and to the motherboard. And I have spoken to HP about this somewhat say that nothing can be done, except buy a new laptop. Considering she bought this 3 years ago, I am annoyed and will do my best to add extra storage for her to have by any means possible. I like a challenge and will look to the internet and the skies where possible to achieve this. If not then I will admit defeat. Thank you for responding though. Wayne.

You are not defeated you just lack understanding. The M.2 port you have will fit the three prong SATA M.2. All M.2 slots have 2 chambers. Some can take the 3 prong B + M keyed device only and some can take that or the "B" only 2 prongs which tend to be NVME. Get a SATA 2280 M.2 SSD. Lots of different ones available.
I looked up the specs of the model you give and it is a Celeron N series which the Manual says there is no M.2 slot so if you see such a slot it may not be active.
Good luck.

Thanks again as for lack of understanding yes, this is pretty new to me these types of hard drives " I'm more a standard hard drive or SSD kind of guy and i am venturing out into the world of NVMe and N.2 drives and the rest.....
Tell me this does this link look positive you think?
1st image shows the slot to fit a hard drive, The 2nd picture is where a hard drive can be put into and connected up but HP did not make the sata ribbon cables for these to be upgraded. What i cant understand is why buy a laptop "my client" with only 60gb of data onboard, and you cant upgrade despite the connections are there for it. Really find it difficult to see how HP could do that. Sounds like a scam to me from HP, to build these types but not upgrade them later if a customer wants more data on a drive fitted for example. I am not expert far from it, But seems wrong. Am just trying to do the right thing for my client.

The answer to all this is that it is a very inexpensive laptop and lacks some features and capabilities. That picture is an M.2 slot and connection point. Can't tell by looking whether it is active. The laptop has a 64 gig eMMC storage which cannot be removed or upgraded.
