I bought this laptop with a 128GB SSD and want to install a larger 1TB drive. Without opening the laptop, I want to know if I have more than one slot so I can install the new hardware and clone the old drive. If I only have one slot, how can I accomplish this?

Yes, you can add 1TB or 2TB normal 2.5" HDD or SSD to your machine but you need more parts. Please look at page 36 of the following manual

   http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06267384.pdf

It will shows you part # and how to add 2.5" HDD/SSD to your machine.

Regards.

I bought the SSD already and it’s the M.2 SSD from Crucial. It comes with Acronis software for cloning but naturally I cannot clone if I only have one SSD slot. Maybe the software can create an image of my current SSD drive and then I can transfer that to the new M.2 SSD drive ??  I have to investigate that thru Crucial. I was wondering if there is some other way.

This seems to be a common problem which I have not seen any solution to. My laptop is only three months old. Would HP Support help me? I bought a laptop with only a 128GB SSD -- too small. I since bought a 1TB SSD to replace it with, bought an external enclosure for the new SSD for cloning purposes, cloned the drive. I can see it in disk management, it seems identical to the original SSD ... but it will NOT boot up when I replace the new SSD into the old SSD slot. I have been searching for a solution to no avail. Can someone help?
