My x key does not work, i have tried hard reset. Gone through support assistance  and fail keyboard test, checked bios =ok.it happened after windows update so could be linked .any ideas appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... I would like to help you.

(1) I would temporarily connect external USB keyboard to continue working with notebook.

 

(2) Where to buy keys ?

(3) If you're brave, you can try to change the <x> key, but I would have HP officially fix it. That is my personal opinion.

HP warranty valid -> Contact HP Support

HP warranty expired: -> DIY (Do it yourself)

(4) If it proves to be too difficult or replaced key is not working, the keyboard must be replaced!

It is still under warranty as I too extended  warranty and i am using USB keyboard, i was just wondering if it it could be soft wear problem.
