I am getting optane degrading messages and it apprears I may have to remove or disable this funtion?

If you have to turn off the Intel Optane memory, see the last two sections at the link below:
HP PCs - Installing and Using Intel Optane | HP® Support
You first disable the Intel Optane memory using the Intel RST software.
Then if your notebook has a BIOS setting to disable the Intel Optane, you disable that setting too.
Then I believe you can just use the NVMe portion of the Intel SSD as usual.
If the drive fails, I recommend that you replace it with a standard NVMe SSD, such as a Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD.
