hp pavilion 5-cx0056wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i have hp pavilion 5-cx0056wm it gaming laptop and i have been wondering if capping the proccesor at specific clock (say 3.6) will hurt the laptop
and also overclocking the gpu assuming i can some how maintain the thermal performance (assume that there will be no thermal damage from overclocking

You just do not have the leeway to mess with multipliers and timings on a consumer laptop that are afforded with a desktop computer. So overclocking, etc. is just generally not a thing. You might find some sketchy apps out there that allow it but you will absolutely not be able to "maintain the thermal performance" as you say; you will heat it up like a Roman candle. And if you break it and try to claim the warranty HP can tell if an effort was made to overclock it and the warranty will be void. Sorry.

thanks for your attention.

ok i understand but is capping the cpu to a lower clock than it's maximum also harmful?
its maximum clock is 4.0 and i intend to cap it to 3.6
and does that void warranty

Anything you do to interfere with the normal operation of the processor runs the risk of voiding the warranty.

yes but does it hurt the processor ?

Probably not but does not help much either. You are just blocking Turbo boost from reaching its peak which it almost never does anyway and not for very long. The mobile processors have very significant thermal and other management tools and you really do not need to intervene thinking you know more than the designers of the hardware.

i really appreciate your help but u do know that i come here to ask for knowledge to know what I don't know so its normal to ask for the full version not just the short version
please dont criticise people when they want to confirm ideas or words from unknown sources
again your help is really appreciated thnx
btw it was tested that undervolting and capping this cpu in this laptop to 3.6 does help with thermal performance

Could you tell me what app and or software your running to cap and under clock? I'm having heat issues myself, thermal throttles constantly, so just wondering. Thanks.
