Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i tried to upgrade my g6 -1242sa processor by replacing  i5 -2430m  to i7-2620m

the laptop starts up and reports the i7 processor corectly but after approx 10 minutes i get blue screen of death .

it restarts and works ok for a few minutes then blue screen of death again the more i use it the faster it happens .

if i put back my original i5 processor  it works correctly again with no crash .

the bios is f.66 .

is there another bios specifically for the i7 processor or is it just not compatable with my laptop ?

thank you in advance

ian

That model is no longer supported by HP as it is too old.  I did find drivers, manuals,  and BIOS from another site.  The BIOS posted is the last one from the other site and the manual indicates the  Intel Core i7-2620M processor as a listed CPU.

When the Intel Core i7-2620M processor is installed, did you make sure the cooling thermal paste is adequate to make good contact with the cooler?

Thank you for your reply

Yes i checked and reseated the processor approx 4 times and the thermal paste coverage was ok when i checked the footprint left on the heat sink

Finding the reason for the shutdowns might prove to be difficult if not heat related.  Investigating the reason should start in the "Event Viewer".

Here is a guide to help.  It most likely will be time consuming.
