14-dk0056nb
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a new laptop HP 14-dk0056nb today, and am curious about the discrepancy between the detected total of physical memory in this device, and the memory size available to Windows.

I specifically selected this model over the cheaper variants in the same series, because this one had 8 GBs of memory vs most other budget laptops of this model which have only 4GB. When looking at the size of memory available to Windows ( Win 10 in 64 bit version ), then Task Manager shows indeed 8GB as installed, but only 5,9 as available.

2,1 is " reserved for hardware ".

I know this Ryzen 5 AGPU comes with the embedded Vega 8 GPU with somewhat-better-than-average-for-an-iGPU-performance, but seeing it eat 26% of system memory, is more than I expected, nor want.

Most of the time, I won't be using graphics intensive applications, and I'd much rather have this ram available to applications than the graphics card, at least for daily use.

I had a look in the BIOS Setup Screen, but couldn't find any settings to change the allocation of graphics-reserved ram.

Any suggestions on how I can tweak this to my preference?

kind regards, Tom

Hello @TomBasske,

there is no way to change this setting.
