HP Pavilion - 15-cc001na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP pavilion 15 cc001na running windows 10 Pro.

After turning off this laptop using the physical on/off button or the power off button in Windows start the switch light comes back on and it won't turn off until the battery is flat.
I have tried changing the power settings so the machine turns off when the button is pressed. I also purchased and installed a replacement battery. I tried removing the drives and resetting the BIOS but only removing the battery turns the light off.
Are there any other solutions I could try. Thanks

Hi @Riskit,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion 15 might have a power management or hardware issue preventing it from shutting down properly. Since you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, here are a few additional solutions to consider.

Check for Fast Startup Issues

Windows Fast Startup can sometimes cause power issues. Try disabling it:

  • Open Control PanelPower Options
  • Click Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended)
  • Click Save changes and restart your laptop

Check for a Stuck Power Button

If the power button is slightly stuck, it may keep the laptop in a half-on state. Try pressing it repeatedly to see if it frees up.

Run a Power Troubleshooter

  • Open SettingsUpdate & SecurityTroubleshoot
  • Click Additional troubleshooters
  • Select Power and run the troubleshooter

Check BIOS Settings

Sometimes, a BIOS setting might be keeping the laptop from turning off completely.

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (press F10 at startup)
  • Look for Power Management or Advanced Power Settings
  • Disable Wake on LAN and any settings related to USB power delivery when off
  • Save and exit

Update BIOS & Drivers

An outdated BIOS or driver could be causing the issue.

  • Go to HP Support → Enter your model number
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update and chipset drivers

Check Event Viewer for Shutdown Issues

  • Press Win + X → Select Event Viewer
  • Navigate to Windows Logs → System
  • Look for any errors related to shutdown and post the details

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop and unplug it
  • Remove the battery
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds
  • Reconnect the battery and power on

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Shut down the laptop from within Windows. Right click the Windows icon and choose shut down.

Pressing the power button, unless you are holding it for 5-10 seconds, puts the laptop in sleep or hibernate mode.
