@tom934, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Resolving Printer or Ink System Issues on HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer (N911a)!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer is displaying an error message indicating a problem with the printer or ink system, and restarting or disconnecting the printer does not fix the issue, follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem:
Reset the Printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
- Note: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
- Turn the printer back on.
Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges
For optimal performance, use genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may cause issues that these steps may not resolve. You can verify the authenticity of your cartridges on the HP anti-counterfeit webpage.
Check the Ink Levels
On the printer control panel, touch the Ink Level icon to check the estimated ink levels. Replace any low or empty cartridges.
Clean the Printhead
- Load plain white paper into the input tray.
- On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow to display additional options.
- Touch Setup (a wrench symbol), then touch Tools.
- Touch Clean Printhead. Follow the on-screen instructions for cleaning stages.
Update the Printer Firmware
- From the home screen on the printer control panel, touch the ePrint icon.
- Wait for the printer to connect to the ePrint server.
- Touch Settings in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Touch Printer Update and then Check for Update Now.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
