I always eject my external hard drive or any USB thumb drive by clicking on the icon in the taskbar and choosing "Eject." I would receive a balloon message saying that it was safe to remove the hardware.
As of a few days ago, the icon is there, but when I choose "Eject," the balloon message is not appearing. Afterwards, the icon has disappeared as if the dirve was removed and the drive is not showing in Windows Explorer.
Plugging the dirve in agan and trying to eject via right clicking on the drive in Windows Explorer:
1) I DO get the balloon message if it is a USB thumb drive
2) There is no option to eject if it is an external hard drive (connected via USB)
If I use this command in command prompt:
rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
I get the message that the drive (external hard drive) is not removable and cannot be unplugged.
