elitebook 8560p
Linux

Hi all. I have just received an elitebook 8560p which contains 1 x 4GB (4GB total) ddr3 memory stick, and I would like to purchase and add 1 x 8GB to get a total of 12GB.  The "Maintenance and Service Guide" states that the "supported memory configurations" are:

2 x 8GB (16GB total)

1 x 8GB (8GB total)

2 x 4GB (8GB total)

1 x 4GB + 1 x 2GB (6GB total)

2 x 2GB (4GB total)

1 x 4GB (4GB total)

1 x 2GB + 1 x 1GB (3GB total)

1 x 2GB (2GB total)

and, of course, I see that my intended memory configuration (1 x 8GB + 1 x 4GB for a total of 12GB) is *not* supported. Does anyone have any experience in trying to boot with memory (size) configurations which are *not* in the above list? If yes, were you successful? Did the machine boot and if so, how much memory was recognised?

Thank you!

12 gigs will be fine. The table you see is just the configurations HP offered from the factory. If it will run 16 gigs it will run 12.

It is most important to be sure to match the type of RAM already in the laptop. Same speed which should be DDR3-1600 and density...the number of black blocks on the side of the module.

Note it is DDR3 1.5 volt and not the 1.35 volt DDR3L which is more common now in stores.

Huffer, you're a star - thank you!! I also very much appreciate the info re the low voltage version memory.

Thanks again, and best wishes.
