@pauljoey1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble with your HP Notebook recognizing the added RAM. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Check Compatibility: Ensure the new RAM is compatible with your notebook. Refer to your notebook's manual or HP support website for the correct RAM specifications.

Update BIOS: Sometimes, updating the BIOS can help the system recognize new hardware. You can download the latest BIOS update from the HP Support website.

Reseat RAM Modules: Remove and reinsert the RAM modules to ensure they are properly seated in their slots.

Check RAM Slots: Test the RAM modules in different slots to rule out a faulty slot. Sometimes, one slot may not be working correctly.

Check System Limits: Verify if your system has a limit on the amount of RAM it can recognize. Some systems may only support up to a certain amount of RAM per slot.

Run Diagnostics: Use HP's built-in diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues. This can sometimes identify problems with the RAM or other components.

Regarding speeding up your AMD A6 processor, adding more RAM can help improve performance, but there are other factors to consider:

  • Upgrade to SSD: If you haven't already, upgrading to a solid-state drive (SSD) can significantly improve overall system performance.
  • Optimize Software: Ensure that your system is free from unnecessary software and background processes that can slow it down.
  • Consider CPU Upgrade: Depending on your notebook model, upgrading the CPU might be an option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
