Hey guys. I'm currently looking for some help here. My laptop is a hp notebook -15-db0011dx. It has 4 gb of ram. I am looking to see if it is possible to upgrade the ram on this. My primary function on this laptop is to use it for studio recording, as i am a musician. My current software is pretty high tech. At times my laptop does lag quite a bit. When i bought the laptop a few years ago, I bought it pretty cheap, as i didn't have the financial funds to buy a nice one. One of the interfaces that i am looking to purchase for studio recording requires 8gb of ram to function properly. I looked online for ram and i did find one that suits my model number. But i am very skeptical on this because i have blown computers in the past after adding ram even though they said it was compatible. I have blown 2 that ended up getting factory reset after the ram was put in. It sounds a bit fishy, but it did happen. Amazon has this ram listed at 70 dollars. Any suggestions is appreciated!

Hi:
Below is the link to the link to the service manual for your notebook.
Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC
Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info.
Your notebook has one memory slot and can support 1 x 8 GB of memory.
That means you will need to remove the 4 GB chip and replace it with an 8 GB chip.
You can buy a compatible 8 GB memory chip for much less directly from Crucial.
Crucial 8GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM | CT8G4SFRA32A | Crucial.com
Make sure that you follow the correct procedures to remove and replace the memory such as unplugging the notebook from the A/C adapter and removing the battery.
You should not be 'blowing' a PC by replacing memory.

Here is the Service Manual:
You have the A6 processor so a single memory slot now filled by a 4 gig module. You can upgrade to a single 8 gig DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM which will downclock to run at -1866 speed. DDR4-2666 or -3200 would work OK, too. See p. 43 of the Manual for "how to".
Don't know about how you did it before but I have done many dozen laptop memory upgrades without issue as long as you get compatible memory. You don't tell us what you found online. You need, as I said DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM and it should be stock OEM stuff like Hynix Samsung, stock Crucial. As so:
Timetec is made by Hynix specifically for Amazon sale. Very good stock OEM memory will work fine for you. The 4 gig to 8 bump should be noticeable but don't expect miracles.

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05997528
It has 4 GB DDR4-1866 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB) and it only has 1 slot of RAM, and you can upgrade to 8GB of RAM max using https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct8g4sfs824a/ct12661999 (RAM will run at 1866MHz).
Your machine is NO good for editing photos and videos.
Regards.
